Somehow I’ve become a fan of spring…
Seven days until spring officially begins, and the trees are already declaring themselves. Some of the magnolias along my street have jumped the gun and are in full bloom, their fuzzy pods falling willy nilly onto the sidewalk beneath them. The magnolia at my building’s entrance is a tad more shy, and is still in the fuzzy pod phase. When it finally does bloom, we’ll have beautiful flowers of the palest pink…
Perhaps it’s the fact that this winter has been one of the darkest and rainiest yet, or perhaps it’s because I’m making an effort to be more attuned to the seasons and the cycles, but this year the coming of spring is a major event for me. I’ve already caught myself casting longing glances at the local plant shops and I’ve cruised my fair share of garden websites (Vancouver is blessed with some spectacular gardens, like the Van Dusen Botanical, The Nitobi Memorial Garden, and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden). I may even try to get over my black thumb this year and try growing a pot or two of herbs and some catnip on my balcony.
I’m directing part of this surge of energy towards a much-needed spring clearing, and have started a list of things I’d like to complete by the end of the month:
Go through every closet and drawer in the apartment and clear out as much as possible.
Get terribly domestic and go through all the fall/winter linens (towels, bed sheets, blankets) and make sure they’re in a good state of repair before they go into storage.
Go through the bookcases and put together a box of books and magazines that can be given away/taken to the second hand bookstore.
Buy a squeegee and clean the windows and balcony – apparently the muck from construction in the area has been magnetically drawn to my glass surfaces. Ew.
Take a deep breath and an extra dose of patience, and go through our miniscule storage locker with Lunchtruck. With any luck, we’ll find things in there that we no longer need and can give away…
Your turn – do you have special plans for Spring?

spring plans – do a full clean, i.e. house, body & mind (and that includes all useless and draining relationships)
I too am starting spring stuff. I have pots and pots of bulbs planted indoors that will start blooming in about a month. I have already started going through my closets and pulled out a few items to dump. I like the linen idea and think I shall adopt that as many of my quilts need repairs.
even though i have a black thumb, my spring will be spent in the back yard working on the garden.
Hmmm…at first it was just ‘move.’ But I don’t think that will happen.
So now it is ‘make sure the housing corp ACTUALLY do what they have promised’.
So I can have a garden again.
Other than that….wash walls, clean out toys, etc.
I need to buy some new bookcases and hopefully that will inspire a book cleaning too!
cupcakes. eating a lot of them. i’m mildly obsessed.
and healthy stuff like being positive and happy and playing music and taking photos. and of course lame stuff like cleaning my hard wood floors *major dust bunnies*
