I’m feeling smug. This doesn’t happen very often, so bear with me.
It’s going to be one of the hottest days of the year here in Vancouver (up to 33° C, or approximately 92° F for those of you from the U.S.), and I’ve already done my workout for the day. Yeah me!
Granted, it took me 1/2 an hour and the helpful nudgings of a hungry yowler, but I got my heinie out of bed, fed kitties, managed to get the contacts in and hit the gym, all before 5:15 this morning. The sun had just risen, it was already quite warm out, but I figured no one but my fabulously fit next-door neighbour would be in there at this hour.
I was right.
The Deets:
This morning I concentrated on doing 1:6:1 splits, but ran into complications halfway through the second split and had to speed walk through the rest, then did a really good stretch to work out the kink that had got in the way.
Despite this set back, I felt surprisingly good by the time I left the gym and headed for the joys of a cool shower. I hadn’t got through the whole run, but something really great happened 15 minutes into my workout.
Lunchtruck showed up, and got on the treadmill next to me.
If ever anyone did something that deserved respect, that was it. He’d gone to bed early last night, exhausted, and I honestly thought he would get up with just enough time to get his act together and scamper out the door to work. Instead, he came downstairs and trained. We hadn’t talked about it, there wasn’t any nagging – he just did it. I was delighted.
For a guy who wasn’t sure he had it in him to train for a tri, he’s showing real resolve; the training hasn’t exactly been smooth these past few weeks, but he isn’t giving up – he just starts again the next day, drawing on reserves he probably didn’t even know he had.
Yeah, I’m proud of him.

It sounds like you are in for a very hot day, hopefully your latte will help you stay cool! :0)
