Yes, two posts in one day. Don’t get excited - this won’t be happening too often!
A couple of nights ago I decided it was time to move the yarn stash out of my dresser drawer. The clothes, after all, need somewhere to live, preferably where the furballs can’t cover them with contrasting cat fur. Plus, I’ve been distracted with other things this winter and haven’t picked up my needles in… well, too long. I thought going through the stash might motivate me.
With a couple of interested spectators on hand, I gingerly opened the drawer.
The next moment was like something out of an old Tex Avery cartoon. Think Jack-In-The-Box, but with yarn. The cashmerino ran amuck and scared queen Cleo from her post atop the bed, and the acrylic decided it was the perfect time to burst out of it’s flimsy plastic bag. Thankfully the needles stayed put, Mulder caught the acrylic, and the silks stayed where they were, but the end result was not pretty.
So I set to reorganizing, revisiting and rearranging. The plan was simple – put the projects I want to work on in my new knitting bag (the Namaste Vintage Knitting Bag, a fabulously chosen Christmas gift gift from my darling) and pack up the rest for storage.
What actually happened was more along the lines of show and tell.
To the cats.
With classic knitter’s lines such as “oooh I forget I had this!”, “Now, what did I buy this one for?” and innumerable “oh, I could knit (insert time-intensive project here) with this!”
It was a slower process than I thought.
In the end I ended up with three projects in the bag – my lonely little Autumn scarf (which needs maybe two more inches and some knotted fringe), the beloved’s sweater, and the cashmerino sampler on which I was testing out different stitches from the Harmony guide I got last year.
Now there are 3 full bags of yarn sitting on my dining room table waiting for me to find them a new home, and I’m feeling inspired to pick up my needles again.
